The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is always a great family destination during the summer months. Each year, they seem to have something new to see and explore, and 2021 is no exception. Our family spent the day there just last weekend, and we were thrilled with some of the new things that awaited us. If you haven’t been to the zoo yet this year, read on to find out what’s new.
Zoo Babies
My kids were fascinated by two of the zoo’s youngest members this year. First, We got a chance to see Sukari, the baby giraffe. She was born last September, and she’s the youngest member of the giraffe tower. It’s amazing how big she is even as a baby, but she couldn’t be cuter. Plus, feeding the giraffes is always a fun experience in its own right; so be sure to make the giraffe tower in African Journey a must-do stop on your zoo itinerary.
Also in African Journey, you can see Ajali, the baby swamp monkey. We have been to the zoo many times, and I have to admit that the swamp monkeys are never high on our must-see list. Ajali has changed all that. The day we visited, she was active and playful, and the kids got a real kick out of watching her monkey antics.
There are also two new baby Sitatunga calves named Sakani and Hasira. We missed them this trip, but they’re definitely on our list for next time. The African Journey exhibit is teeming with new life this year, and it’s so exciting for kids and parents alike.
Feed the Stingrays
My absolute favorite new experience at the zoo this year is the Feed the Stingray experience. Yes, that’s right. You actually get to feed them. In the past, the zoo has given guests the opportunity to touch stingrays, but now you can purchase a cup of food for $5 and feed them by hand. It’s something you’ve got to try. A zoo employee told the kids that it feels a bit like a vacuum cleaner suctioning your fingers when the stingray takes the food, and she was exactly right. I can’t think of a better way to explain it, but it was definitely an awesome experience.
Twenty-four New Goats
One of our favorite parts of the zoo is the petting area at the Indiana family farm. This year, the new goats are absolutely adorable. You can brush and feed them to your heart’s content, and they are friendly enough for even the youngest visitors to pet. Watch out, though, they do like to nibble on your clothes.
These are just a few of the highlights of what’s new this year at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. My family had a wonderful time there last weekend, and I’m sure your family will too. Take a trip to the zoo to see it all for yourself and discover all the new things the zoo has to offer in 2021.
