If you haven’t made it to the 2021 Color in Motion Butterfly Exhibit at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, you still have a few weeks to get there. The exhibit ends its season on June 27, and you don’t want to miss it.
Each year, in the spring, more than two dozen park and conservatory employees work together to construct the tent for the annual butterfly exhibit. The main tent plus the entrance and exit and the hatching lab take about a week to finish, and area residents eagerly anticipate the first day of live butterfly viewing that follows.
The exhibit houses many different kinds of butterflies from all over the world. Because they are not native to Indiana, the conservatory works hard to ensure that none escape the tent while still giving our community a chance to get up close and personal with these beautiful, amazing creatures. Some of the most popular species in the tent include Blue Morpho, Emerald Peacock and Scarlet Mormon; and they are a delight for children and adults alike.
During the month of June, you can also take part in several color craft sessions. These will be held June 17-19 from 11:00 am to 1:pm and are free with your paid Conservatory admission. June’s theme is Plantable Colors.
